The Pentamation suite of K-12 information systems is a fully integrated, comprehensive, administrative software package that offers Financial, Student, and Special Education Management applications for education-based agencies and offers seamless interaction between these modules.  Pentamation software systems inform each other when changes are made thus eliminating repetition and allowing users to analyze spending in relation to student achievement. SunGard Pentamation is SIF compliant, allowing it to interface with other data systems such as grade books, CIM trackers, and substitute calling systems.

The WESD Data Warehouse reads data from the Student Systems –  Schoolmaster, SASI, LBL, or Pentamation, ensures the data meets defined standards, and loads it into the presentation area for access by various reporting and analysis tools.

The Data warehouse is designed for querying and analysis.  Combined with a dashboard, the analysis information can be “pushed” to the end-user based on their job role.  In a portal environment such as SharePoint, all the information and tools at are hand to make the necessary decisions for informing instruction to meet federal requirements and district or school goals.

Business Intelligence software is used for the analysis and reporting of the “clean” data.  These include many flavors, but for the most part include reporting, multi-dimensional querying, and dashboards.

Reporting tools provide pre-defined reports or allow for ad-hoc reports created by district staff.

Multi-dimensional analysis tools exhibit data in multiple arrays - also called cubes - that allow efficient aggregation and dis-aggregation of data.   Cubes allow end users to understand their data more effectively.  For example, the student assessment data could be viewed by AYP criteria – ethnicity, socio-economic status, Students w/ disabilities, LEP -, TAG, or gender.  Then this data is able to be analyzed by influencing factors such as attendance, discipline, transfer students, and more.  All of this data can further be broken out by prior time periods such as month, term, or school year.

Dashboards are graphical views of the data providing an immediate view of specific criteria. Dashboards can be defined by job role so that they provide the view of data necessary to answer the questions for the specific job role.

Pre-determined measures of the data with the ability to look at the data in multiple ways.
